NY Parents Protest Payroll Tax

December 17, 2009 -- Some parents in New York are up in arms about the state not coming through with millions of dollars it owes private schools and then, adding insult to injury, hitting private schools in the New York City area (though not public schools) with a payroll tax to help offset transit costs. Jim Cultrara, co-chair of the NYS CAPE, is helping to lead the charge to get the state to reverse its course. You can see a Fox News video interview with Jim here.

STEM Seminar and Digital Projectors for Minnesota Schools

December 2009 -- The Minnesota Independent School Forum (MISF) held its 2009 STEM Teacher Seminar this fall at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Many exciting new offerings were showcased at the seminar, allowing MISF to ensure continued strength as a leader in STEM programming.  Click here to view the full conference agenda.

In other news, last month the 3M Foundation donated, and MISF distributed, 200 digital projectors to K-8 private schools in Minnesota.  Equipped with a special annotation pod attachment, the projectors, each valued at $3,000, transform a standard whiteboard into an interactive whiteboard.  The equipment distribution brings to 450 the number of projectors that 3M has generously donated to 142 private schools in the state since July.
